Once again she swallowed. Dear god, she’d do whatever, if he could just stop threatening her! It frightened her enough to know what he was capable of – hearing his knuckles crack at the joints like that, and seeing that spark in his eyes that only showed when he was in a particularly bad mood… that was horrible. What more was she to do asides from her best? It was all she could do! But it wasn’t enough… Not unless she let Tobias down, and played only by Mr Levine’s rules.
… that was not an option.
The girl kept her gaze down and refused to meet his. So long as she kept submissive and a reasonable low profile, he would not have very many reasons to fly off the handle. So long as she kept calm… It wasn’t the easiest in the company of a man so violent and intimidating as the CEO of Levine Industries, but Gabrielle figured she’d been a part of this establishment long enough to know by now how to handle him.
“No, he wouldn’t”, she agreed. “But please, Mr Levine, give me another chance! I’ve always wanted the best for Tobias, and I always act in his best interests. This time, I made a mistake, and I’ve already realized. Please…”

Oscar had the firm belief that his drugged son was incapable of forming an opinion of himself, which was sort of true. To change the young boy's views was easier than to blow a feather away with the wind; Tobias was so easily affected by priming that a one-time exposure could change his behaviour immidently. Sure, some thinking had seemed to settle such as this ridiculus behaviour at New Year's Eve, but Oscar knew Tobias' would stop if he wasn't encouraged in the act.
And then, again...
It was so easy to take it all away. One larger dose of SETH, and then it would be settled. However, Oscar was still insecure about how it would affect him later, and since Tobias had started becoming of the right age he didn't want to take the risk. |

”I’ve learned my lesson, and so has Tobias. He won’t act up again. Next time, I’ll just put him to bed; I promise.”
Even if it breaks my heart, she thought quietly, but kept the notion to herself. If Oscar spotted it, he’d take it all the wrong ways – and be correct in his assumptions. Surely, Gabrielle was notorious in her attempts to show that her loyalty lay with the fabled Mr Levine, but in reality, she was all for Tobias’ claims to a fairly normal life. She wished nothing else but to care for him, and make sure he got out as much as he possibly could of the life he currently lived.
That included keeping Oscar in a good mood. And she did her best to make sure he always was – not doing so would surely grant not only herself but also Tobias a lot of pain and heartache. Even if Tobias, as always, would not remember a thing of it…
