Maria, What’s the deal with Shangrila? You can take a drink down by the beach and enjoy the weather, and get inside one of the shops by the boulevard just in time to escape the planned drizzle that starts at three p.m. When you’re done with your afternoon shopping, you meet up with your friends and go to one of the elegant restaurants with a decent view of the shoreline. Then you head home at a comfortable strolling pace, enjoying the clean streets and the beautiful people. You’ve got everything you could dream of; all the comforts of a rich life. Once could hardly believe the world lies in ruins outside from that horrible war, with all the luxury inside these walls.
So what’s the deal? What’s the catch? Well…
Everything is not as calm as it seems. You know old Lancer downstairs? Heard he got taken away a couple of nights ago. It went swiftly and quietly. Anubis, or so the rumours say. He hasn’t come back yet. His apartment is empty; someone new is moving in. People disappear. The laws are strict, and though everything goes in this utopian paradise, some rules are upheld to high standards.
Then there’s the rumour of Agalma. I know they have been around for decades, but isn’t it a bit creepy that there might be perfect, programmable people around us that we don’t know about? Toys for those with the cash to pay? At least I think so… Sure, nothing has been confirmed, but just the thought of those brainwashed dolls sends shivers down my spine. I’ve heard the rumours that the stem cell research has gotten underway too, with gene-splicing just around the corner. How did they get that far that fast? Well… at least it might help speed up my manicures…
And the Seven Deadly… don’t you think it’s kind of strange, that they have managed to uphold such a complete control over the town? It’s so peaceful. There are no police on the street, and yet – not a single robbery in twenty years. Not one. No crimes reported at all. It’s as if… oh, I don’t know… perhaps a decadent decent lifestyle is good for us, and that the S.ins upkeep peace…
There seems to be plots going on behind the scenes though. The streets are as calm as ever, but in pleasant restaurants huge sums of money and small notes exchanges hands, and things get done. No mess, no questions asked.
Is the revolutionary spirit from outside the walls slowly seeping into the city itself? Seems so… or at least someone with power, who is not all that happy with how the current board is set up, is on the move.
I don’t know, sister. Please, promise me you’ll be careful out there. Something is wrong. I can feel it.
Signed,
