Looks
Alice is a woman of short stature; generally, the first thing you notice about her is that you have to look down to meet her gaze. The next thing that stands out is the hair; she takes great measures every morning to brush her curly, blonde hair into any sort of presentable fashion. The locks easily get tangled up and look messy unless she cares for them properly. The bangs are cut into a long, diagonal fringe which tends to get into her eyes. The face is heart-shaped with a slightly pointed chin, full lips and a small nose. Alice’s most prominent feature is the eyes, which she likes to accentuate by a light make-up; they are light blue in colour. Her complexion is naturally fair, which has the drawback that it easily burns in the tropical sun, lending her skin a highly unattractive, reddish hue if she is not careful with sun blocks.
Body-wise, she’s petite, and still holds the figure of the young woman she is. Her womanly features are there, but not as full or as developed as might be the norm; she has the looks of a young girl rather than that of a grown femme fatale. Though she might be considered attractive by some standards, she has nothing compared to other, upper-class women that could actually afford a make-over. Not that Alice cares; she’s happy with who she is, and confident enough not to compare herself to others.
Style of Clothing
Dress for success – or? Well… there’s a difference between scene clothing and casual, free-time wear in this young singer’s opinion. On stage, she likes to look glamorous, and the scene personality of “Angel” dresses in elegant evening gowns, sponsored by the clubs she frequently works for. These creations tend to sparkle, stand out, and be graceful in a grown-up manner which accentuates what little forms she has. At her part-time work as a waitress at Vivaldi’s, she wears the standard waitress uniform since the owner strictly forbids anything else.
Off stage, however, she likes to dress feminine yet casually, and often choose far simpler clothes – by Shangrila standards. Skirts and dresses are still a favourite though, not matter whether it’s in business or for fun. She even owns a couple of old-style Japanese Lolita dresses, which she likes to take out and look at from time to time; there’s seldom any times to wear them, though.
Body Mods and other Distinct Features– Piercings, Tattoos and Scars
None of particular note; she’s pierced her ears, but that’s about it.

Personality
Here is one feisty young woman! Though her looks, likes and traits might at first come across as the usual, girly stuff most females her age seems to care about, beneath all that is a tough core. Alice is a highly curious woman, who is not afraid to speak her mind. This has taken her far in show-biz – with her honesty and no-nonsense attitude, she is set aside from other divas trying to grab the spotlight by backstabbing and bribing. Due to her middle-class background she is not highly educated, but she doesn’t let it bother her. She likes reading, and believes that all she does not know already, she can just look up – a little mystery is just fun, and she likes a challenge. Her attitude is held up by an optimistic and naturally enthusiastic nature, shining through in all she undertakes – be it friends, lovers or interests. Unfortunately, her low education level also leaves her on the naïve side, leading her to believe in most of the propaganda put out by certain ministries.
Alice’s honesty has a backside: she is incredibly stubborn, and can hardly ever admit that she’s wrong. She stands by her opinions with a rock-solid conviction which could prove to be very dangerous, weren’t she so inexperienced. She won’t accept being looked down upon with disrespect, or being judged based on what people believe her to be, rather than what she is (which is funny, seeing how she does just that herself!). If you’re sincere and straightforward with Alice, she’ll grow to respect you – if not, she’ll despise you, and you’ll never hear the end of it!
With her daring, inquisitive nature, she loves taking chances and try new things. This has led her to believe that you need to try in order to achieve things in life, and that strife is the only way forward. Thus, she holds very narrow-minded opinions about the people she label “lazy”. Being young, she cannot see how this combination of “knowing everything”, lack of humility, and outspokenness makes her just the prejudiced type of person she so deeply dislikes.
This is a very active person, who likes being on the move, and being engaged in various activities. She likes when stuff happens – be it on the stage, an adventurous night out with friends, or a stroll along the pristine beaches in up-town Eden. With her tough personality and temperament, she found a good outlet in kickboxing, and enjoys focusing all her energy on this high-tempo sport.
Two major phobias haunt the young woman’s mind. One is the fear of failure. Perhaps it is that which, deep down, drives her to continuously challenge herself and press onwards towards her goal of becoming an accepted, liked member of the society she lives in. This is one that she is unaware of, but that is present in her everyday life: everything from her career to her unwillingness to lose an argument bears traces of it. It also affects her relationships; despite her social skills and her liking of hang out with friends, she has never once formed a deeper bond with anyone, and you could almost say she’s subconsciously afraid (unable?) to commit and open up. The other fear is a much more notable one; the fear of the dark. She can handle nightfall on lit streets, or even the “darkness” of a stage… but being alone in a dark room, or sleeping without a nightlight…

Place Of Birth: Avalon, Shangrila
Family: Her mother, Beatrice, and her father, Cole
Old Friends, Lovers and Other Relationships: Has had a few boyfriends but none that meant anything special; no friends of interest to mention
Background:
Alice Locke’s history is a fairly uneventful one compared to many of the other personalities of Shangrila. Her parents were part of the first middle-class settlers of Shangrila – Cole a young entrepreneur within the restaurant business; Beatrice an aspiring architect who happened to end up in Cole’s crew as he started building his own bistro. They worked together, and as the city sprout up around them, their companionship developed into something deeper. In 2030, they got engaged; married three years later, and on the 20th of February 2039, a daughter was born to the couple.
As an only child to parents so old, Alice was quickly spoiled with attention and love from the moment she was born. As a small child, she was headstrong and curious, bombarding her unsuspecting parents with all kinds of silly questions. They had a hard time keeping up with the child, doing their best to satisfy her curiosity by showing her things, pointing and explaining, but there was only so much a pair of two could do when there was a business to run. As she got older and more independent, they had to spend more time away, and Alice spent many nights alone, or in the company of a babysitter. This was new to the girl, so used to having her parents close at all time, and she demonstrated her feelings about the situation by starting to misbehave. When that only resulted in babysitters quitting and the parents’ disapproval, she grew temperamental, and – eventually – clingy. Soon enough, around the age of five, a strong case of nyctophobia developed in the separation anxiety-stricken child, and she had to have someone by her side until she fell asleep.
Unsure as to what to do about this disturbing development, the parents took her to a psychiatrist, who treated the condition as well as he could. The solution was a stuffed toy bunny called “Mr Rabbit”, and a nightlight, as well as instructions for both parents to have at least one of them spending a bit more time with their daughter around bedtime. It seemed to work out fine, even though Alice’s nyctophobia never left her. This little incident also planted the seed of what would become her deepest need of succeeding. It would have more impact on her life than just that, too…
School started, and the curious child thrived in an environment where her thirst for knowledge was encouraged. She easily made friends, but formed no deep relationships. Whenever it seemed like she and another one of the children at school would bond, their comradeship turning into that of the best of friendship, Alice always turned critical and found some fault or another with the friend. Lots of tears and fights left the headstrong blonde with lots of acquaintances, but no closer friends. She didn’t seem to mind, though, and her parents accepted the situation as was, believing their beloved daughter to be a capable social person – and, in believing so, transferring said belief to her. She knew no different way of being, and accepted the situation for what it was. Strife was the way forward, and a way she walked utterly alone. Relying on others were a weakness; by doing that, you were lazy and incapable of taking care of yourself. Though she still slept with a nightlight (a trait following her to this day) and sometimes cried into the pillow, she kept strong and buried her insecure feelings underneath a tough exterior and enthusiastic, fun loving persona. Soon enough, she even bought it herself, and stopped her crying.
She grew up to be a teenager, an unruly such, and constantly struggled with her parents. Her troubles with deeper relationships still persisted, but she was less bothered by it now that she figured herself strong enough to be “above it”. She still maintained multiple shallow friendships, and her cheerful nature made her quite popular. At home was a loving, yet lively and conflicting family, often arguing… but just as often making up. It was hard for Beatrice and Cole to keep a rein on their determined daughter, so full of ideas and set in her views. She loved them all the same, but found them old, dusty, boring and restraining. While Cole hoped his daughter would one day want to take over the restaurant, Alice had other plans. She wanted to find her own place in life – one she had chosen for herself, where she could realize her own dreams and not the ones she believed her parents had set for her.
The opening the girl had been looking for came in 2054. As many others, Alice had always enjoyed humming to herself and singing while she worked, but in the beginning of her ninth year a teacher overheard her and encouraged her to seek out professional training. Alice got hooked on the idea, and presented it to her parents, who were grateful that their daughter might have found a hobby to focus her energies on. They gladly paid for a semi-decent teacher, and under her tutelage the girl’s talent developed.
In spring 2055, Alice performed in a talent show at a local club for youths. When she won, she thought herself having found her way at last. Singing was what she liked, what she was good at, and what she could picture herself doing in five years time. Surely, that was her personal way to success! As high school drew to a close, Alice’s mind was set on finding some sort of academy where she could continue to hone her skills, and in the end come out a full-fledged performer. The place wasn’t hard to locate – a college dedicated to the up and coming entertainers of Shangrila. The audition was a nervous occasion, but she managed it fine with her confidence and talent of voice. Three years of supervision and strenuous training sessions was what she had ahead of her, and the young girl looked ahead with self-assurance.
After graduating in 2058, she immediately started to look for a work. Since her name was unknown, it was close to impossible to find one that even touched upon her career choice. Alice was eager to move out and prove her own worth, though, and took the first chance she was given – one post as a waitress at the restaurant Vivaldi in upper-class Avalon. She started working in the summer as a trainee, and continued well into fall. With her honesty and sweet nature, she quickly became popular, eventually talking her way into being allowed to stand for the entertainment one evening. Her singing became a hit, earning her more chances to perform, and soon enough the work offers started coming in at a slow but steadily pace.
By 2060, her fame had spread enough to bring in her some gigs at pubs and clubs in Eden. Alice saw her life dream slowly unfolding before her eyes. It was still far from enough to pay for her living expenses, but she did what she enjoyed doing, and hopefully one day she’d impress someone with influence and earn the spot of fame she believed herself to be worthy through her hard work and talent. Also notable about this year is that it was now she discovered kickboxing and found a new outlet for all the energy she’d previously used up by jogging or taking long strolls.
In present day, Alice – under the artist name of “Angel” due to her looks and phenomenal singing voice – is an up and coming star, as often performing at local clubs in Eden as in the district of her native Avalon. Living in her own apartment, she’s seldom home; focusing on her career but also maintain some of the relationships from her teenage years. Still, there’s an emptiness inside of her that she tries hard to quench through work and leisure; though Alice is unaware of it, she longs for company – another person next to her, someone to confine in. Because the nights are long and lonely, and the darkness seems to close in tighter on her…
