Looks
The body Oscar resides in are the result of five generations of selective “breeding”, and thus he has personally made sure that it would fit his requirements before moving to it. He might not be the tallest of men, but upon a thinner structure of bones he has managed to build a graceful muscle mass, allowing him to keep a proud posture. Even if he keeps a serious face and a straight back whenever needed, in private he tends to become sleazier when sitting or standing. But most of the time when he feels fine, he keeps a slight – joyful? – bounce in his steps.

His face has a rectangular form, with a strong jaw and a slit chin. He shaves for formal occasions, but it’s possible to catch him with stubbles on spontaneous meetings or in his free time. Oscar’s straight nasal bone separates his eyes, whose wideness shifts with his current mood. The cheekbones are of softer sort, and not as prominent as his jaw.

Oscar has let his hair grow to his jaw, and the tips of the hair are slightly curled. Even if this can give a sloppy impression, he makes sure to groom the hair carefully, maintaining a mature yet youthful look.

Oscar prefers customized, tailor made suits especially in grey, but he does also wear black from time to time. If the occasion calls for a tie or a pocket square, he would prefer a blue one over any other color. In his spare time at the apartment, he strolls around in shorts with a simple polo shirt.

Personality
It’s not a whim that made Oscar the manager of Levine Industries. To reach his position, he has worked very hard, which has led him to believe that the only true way is your own gains. Due to this, Oscar hates interference and people who try to tell him how it should be done: however, he doesn’t mind telling others how to do it at all. He despises people that complain rather than to take things in their own hands, as he also frowns upon those who have tried but failed (simply, they didn’t try hard enough).

Oscar believes in himself to the point where he has started to think that he’s invincible, and thus, sometimes kicks back and enjoys as he watches the flow of time work in its mysterious ways. However, when matters must be dealt with, you wouldn’t want to be in his path of destruction, since he can have a fierce temper. When aggravated, which he easily is when someone opposes his rules and regulations, he loses control and… accidents happen.

Even if his ego is big enough block the sun, Oscar knows how to treat the right people respectfully. He has no problem talking about things that doesn’t involve his work, and shows interest in other people’s thoughts and beliefs. He even has a bit of humor, even if it has become rather dark and twisted, and he laughs openly if he finds something or someone amusing. Therefore, some might consider him bipolar; relaxed and easy-going in once second, and in the next absurdly aggressive by the slightest provocation.

But it’s not impossible to be to his liking. It’s just… very, very hard to be it all the time.

Weapons: He knows how to aim and fire with a semi-automatic handgun, and he also owns two that he keeps in his office respectively in his apartment. You never know when you need one… or on whom you need it.
Important Belongings: His hand-held computer, which is his way to communicate with the business partners and his secretary while on foot. However, he has a backup, so it’s no big deal if it would break.

Family: His son (or great-great-great-grandson) Tobias Levine, that currently resides at the Agalma Facilities in Elysia. His last wife, whom he married in 2058, unfortunately fell out from a balcony.
Old Friends, Lovers and Other Relationships: Since Oscar is over 150 years old, it’s impossible to list all of his old friends and lovers. It seems, however, that it’s common for his women friends and lovers to suffer from different cases of fatal accidents, but Oscar seems strangely indifferent to this.

Background:
The official story of Oscar Levine is that he was born on the 7th of May in the year 2022, as the only child between his father – by the same name – and an unknown woman. He grew up in a secured environment, schooled to one day take over the family industries when his father retired, which he did in 2042. The truth, however…

Oscar was born in the year of 1908 in Hamburg under the name of Friedrich Levine, into a wealthy German family probably with noble heritage. The family remained in Germany during the First World War, and managed to keep their grounds almost intact after Germany lost in the war. This made it possible for Friedrich to be sent to the University of Berlin at twenty years of age, as his siblings had before him, where he studied psychology (until the Freudian doctrine was banned) and later on biology, medicine and chemistry to eventually become a doctor or a pharmacist. He got married in the early 1930’s, and later that year he got a son which was named Oscar. This was however the only child to come out of this marriage, and his wife died in an accident the same year as the Second World War begun.

Before, as well as during the war, Friedrich had sympathies with the NSDAP, and he began working for them in the year of 1940. He was never close to being as successful as his colleagues, since he never achieved any significant results with his research. Friedrich took influence of the dedication of soldiers and fighters, and thus experimented with the behavioral and neural basis of extreme devotion, mindsets and brain-washing. In the late months of 1945, when the NSDAP was starting to fall into ruins, he fled – and brought his son with him – to South America. After negotiations with an unknown South American government, he received funds to continue his research on the human mind.

In the decennium of 1950, he came in touch with a South American marine biologist who had found a species of octocorallia with remarkable probabilities. The white substance that could be extracted from the coral by a process of boiling it and evaporate the water, seemed to have a generative effect on the chordate body.

Friedrich started a series of behavioral research on the substance, and also found that whilst it was generative on the body, it had degenerative effect on the brain of monkeys. The substance seemed to inhibit the effect of apoptosis (programmed cell death) in younger adults, whilst it in older primates increased the grey matter (neurons in the fore-brain) significantly in the same time as dendrites and myelinated axons (communication tracks between neurons, also called white matter) retracted. Due to this, there was also a decrease of glial (supporting) cells, that however seemed to exclude Schwann-cells (cells responsible for the myelination of axons in the peripheral nervous system). Friedrich also found that the brains of these adult monkeys were abnormally receptive to Pavlovian conditioning, and that is was basically possible to form an entire new individual with the right means.

Unfortunately, the co-operating marine biologist suffered an accident in the year of 1957, and later that year Friedrich took un-official patent on the substance under the name of SETH. He started to surround himself with specialists, such as chemists, geneticists and other biologists, to develop the process of harvesting SETH and investigating the possibilities to farm the specific octocorallia. As for himself, he continued with his behavioral research; and unknowingly for the sponsoring government, he started to try his methods on humans – mostly villagers kidnapped from smaller settlements – in the year of 1959.

His research culminated in the 1965, when he successfully made the first attempt to transfer a personality (at least partly…) between two human individuals. With what some people would consider a fifth sense, but actually through careful research and experience, he had also made powerful friends across the globe that also sponsored his team of researchers in hopes of profit.

To make the final confirmation that his method of transferring personalities – by using a combined method of brain recording by EEG and PET, and a transferring method of SETH, brain-neurotropic factors, and chemicals – was correct, he placed his own personality into another human being in the year of 1968. There can be doubts about the successfulness of ID-4001, but convinced that his method was definitive working ID-4001 was killed and the research carried on. However, family problems had started to rise.

His son, 39 years old at the time and married with a western woman whom he had a son with, thought that it was starting to become time for his workaholic dad to retire, and transfer the management of the research to him instead. Not too fond of his son, especially not of his decadent lifestyle, Friedrich disagreed, and the situation soon started to get out of hand.

The constant conflicts made Friedrich lose his temper with his son, and he actually was pushed to the limit where he was about to kill his son to get rid of the nagging: then, he got an idea. Perhaps Oscar was right: maybe he was starting to become old. The physique wasn’t what it used to be, and not even his great invention could stop the aging of his body. Friedrich Levine imminently retired to an unknown location, and Oscar Levine took over the research in 1970 with seemingly the same knowledge and enthusiasm as his father once had…

It’s possible that experiment 4002 wasn’t completely successful, and that the new manager actually was a fusion between the personalities of father and son. This, however, didn’t bother Oscar, and with new-won confidence about his work, he continued to refine his copying and transferring methods for four years, and then he went through with another transfer of his mind: this time, into his son’s – or by definition, grandson’s – body. At a merely 19 years of age, the young boy took the name of his father and he also took over the company. Since his mother – or his wife, or daughter in law, once again it’s all about the definition – had recently suffered a casualty, and the research now was independently founded, he no longer had any bonds to South America. In the year of 1976, the company started to move to Australia, and the relocation was done in 1980.

Oscar had another son in the year of 1978, which he ironically named Tobias: meaning “Yahweh (God) is good”, and one more son nine years afterwards. But this time with another woman, since the other one… were in an accident. Tobias was his first son that started to receive SETH at a very young age, and the second one was meant as a backup for this project if something would go wrong. He also had a daughter in 1986, which unfortunately died of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).

The company Levine Industries was formed in 1993, when he together with his contacts started to investigate the marketing probabilities of SETH. The thought was to create a resort for the rich and wealthy, a tropical paradise where every guest could be guaranteed satisfaction even if the need would be considered taboo elsewhere. The construction work around the original research plant started in 1995. Experiment number 4004, Tobias, was successfully finished in 1999, and henceforth started all his subjects in the 40-series – or his sons, or his future bodies, it’s still about the definition – to receive SETH at an early age. The substance was now refined enough to be called pure, even if the technique of transferring – even creating – personalities still was under continuous development. He changed his body to number 4005 in 2009.

The construction work of the areas now known as Elysia and central Eden, originally intended to be the entire part of the resort Shangrila, was almost finished in the year of 2012 when the war broke out. Since Oscar had a vague knowledge about what was going to happen, due to his financial contacts and co-operating scientists in other parts of the world, he started in the middle of 2011 to ship important people to his resort. The building plans were quickly changed to focus on the outer walls, to enhance the protection against the spreading Australian anarchy and to keep the city safe.

As Shangrila slowly started to get cut off from the rest of the world, the research focus moved from SETH to instead develop technologies for agriculture and energy resources to provide uphold the small Shangrilan society. Meteorologists and geologists were added to his biological science department, to try and solve the problem of the sudden climate changes. In 2022, the Shangrilan weather control system went official, and through radio transmitted messages, Shangrila opened its gates to famous, rich or noble people that had managed to survive the Third World War.

When the population slowly started to grow, so did the city, and Avalon and Hesperia was brought up during the years of 2022-2045. In 2022 he had another son, whose body he took over in the early months of 2042. The third son which was named Tobias, was born shortly thereafter, in August 2043, and he’s for now kept safe at Oscar’s own facilities until the day he grows tired of his current body.

As a consequence of the founding of the S.In. Officials, Oscar took a step back as the single prominent figure of Shangrila. He also handed over his position as manager over the science department, to make it possible for him to direct his full attention to his main interest: the Levine Industries. Oscar also maintained a few responsibilities about health care and social affairs, and with his current workload this industrious man is very contempt. These days, he’s able to kick up the feet on the table, relax, and enjoy the pleasures of life.
